You were expecting someone else?

If you were a fan of the original Mega Girl, you’ll know that it was Zero who acted as Roll’s rival. However, it never sat right with me giving Zero such a prominent role while leaving X pretty much non existent. However, the Mega Man Zero games gave me a perfect way to use Zero without actually using Zero. Of course, I made a few other changes, but they should all make sense if you think about them.

I don't really understand this Ryan, I mean Zero was made first to destroy Mega Man and all, then he turned out good so then Sigma made "Omega" as a clone of Zero on I think Mega Man X 3... Right so how does this make since?

Omega is the last letter of the Greek Alphabet, and is often used to mean the final version or end of something. Wily probably named his robot that because he intends it to be the last robot he'll ever need. Then again, from what I know Zero's backstory is very vague, I don't really know what happened to him in the 100 years or so after Wily built him. Maybe he painted himself red and forgot his original name. Unless you plan on this not being zero, but more of a zero prototype, its not like you have to stick with continuity between megaman and megaman x

oh no that IS zero's true form in mega man X5 if you still have zero and you are using him in the final stages there is a hidden light capsule it gives X his ultamite armor for the game and with zero light explains that he can not give zero any armor like X but he can fix some of his programing, which results in him changing form red to black, as for his memory when sigma found zero ,and was nearly killed(saved by some piece of wily code that made him go catatonic), he brought zero to dr. cain who basically reformatted zero partly erasing all his memory's and freeing him form wily's control. as for sigma, when zero and he first fought zero was heavily damaged was in the process of repairing himself with his on board repair system so all his weapons were down at the time, zero nearly killed sigma with a steel pipe, another tide bit zero or omega, caries a very powerful virus designed by wily to infect all light bots and turn them rouge, sigma was infected with a fragment of the virus and he fused with it, X is immune to the virus while the other reploids are not because of the ethical test's that were run on him in addition to several black box's that only dr. light understands

Erm... This is a very little known fact... in fact, I can't remember where I found it... but Omega is actually Zero's last name. Weird, huh? His full name is Zero OMEGA, and he fights a bodystealer named Omega.... coincidence? I think not.

@Bassium! um your probably thinking of Dark Zero from X2...

omega is actualy zero's origional body upgraded and infused with a replica of his origional AI, programmed by Dr. Weil (has nothing to do with wily) to obey his commands.

you see in MMZ zero is in a reconstructed copy of his origional body.


some people interpert this as omega being a forgotten prototype of zero, others see it as his X1 body rebuilt and upgraded to match the reploid body cain made for him at the end of X2. and there's a third group that take weil's statment at face value dispite how convoluted it seems.

Wait Actually, it could be that Zero originally was named Omega. The symbol for Omega is close to the number Zero is appearance, which means that after he was awakened, turned Sigma maverick, lost his memories and the virus, he named himself Zero, as if he was nobody...

@Xero: flaw in your logic, Zero has a gold "Z" engraved in his right shoulder, and later when rebuilt as a reploid, its painted onto his left shoulder pad.

as far as i can tell from manga pages and flashbacks, its always been there.

(on a side note, the painted on one seems to switch shoulders at random from one page to annother...)

Lets get a few things sorted out.
Zero and X fight Omega, a reploid built by Dr Weil. When Omega is defeated he takes Zero's body, it is unknown how. The copy body Zero uses is also said to be built by Weil. It makes sense Weil used the body of the reploid who beat Omega as the base of a new weapon. However Omega either took control of Zero's body and his mind copied to the copy body for research, or the new/incomplete copy body with a Omega switched bodies with Zero.

This would be alot easier if Megaman X6 was not made, this is because Zero1 is based on Zero (real body) waking up after his 100 year sleep at the end of Megaman X5. Inafune did not even know about Megaman X6 existance until after it's development started. Until he worked on Megaman X7, X6 was Non-Cannon. He had to rewrite the Zero series storyline to match (which is why the black part on Zero's helmet changes to dark blue and Omega in Zero's original body now has the black helmet section.
In other words... Megaman Zero 3 was a VERY large Retcon.

Also, the Z on his shoulder could have another meaning other than Zero. But even if Wily DID name him Zero, his code name while in development might have been Omega, after all this was to be his best creation yet, and he know's he's getting old and may not live long enough to create something better (like Light knew when he put X into the test capsule).
